Omaha, Nebraska – Drivers across much of Nebraska are waking up to thick fog blanketing the region Tuesday morning, with visibility dropping to a quarter mile or less in many areas until 10 a.m. CDT, prompting a Dense Fog Advisory for over 40 counties statewide.

According to the National Weather Service offices in Omaha, Hastings, and North Platte, the advisory spans from eastern cities like Omaha, Lincoln, and York, westward through North Platte, Broken Bow, and O’Neill. Visibility could rapidly deteriorate, especially in rural and low-lying areas, posing a serious hazard for the morning commute.

Interstates 80 and 76, along with major highways like US-281 and US-83, may see dangerous driving conditions through mid-morning. Authorities urge drivers to reduce speed, use low-beam headlights, and maintain extra distance between vehicles.

The fog is especially variable, with forecasters noting dense patches may develop quickly over short distances. While some cities may see mild mist, others will be impacted by near-zero visibility, making road conditions unpredictable.

Fog is expected to gradually lift by late morning as temperatures rise. However, drivers should remain alert for shifting visibility patterns until the advisory expires.
