Green Bay, Wis. – Skies across northeast Wisconsin could light up with a rare display of the Northern Lights late tonight, offering residents one of the best chances this year to see the aurora.

According to the Space Weather Prediction Center, solar activity is expected to peak at G3 (Strong) levels, with brief surges reaching G4 (Severe). The National Weather Service in Green Bay said mostly clear skies will improve visibility, especially after midnight, when auroras are most likely to appear.

Viewers are encouraged to head away from city lights for the clearest view. Best conditions will be in rural areas across Brown, Door, and Outagamie counties, though much of northern Wisconsin could catch the glow. Local officials suggest dressing warmly, as temperatures are forecast to dip into the upper 40s to low 50s overnight.

Auroras may be visible as soon as darkness falls, but experts note the strongest activity is expected after midnight. The show could continue into early Tuesday morning if solar conditions remain active.

Warnings remain in effect for elevated geomagnetic activity, meaning another round of Northern Lights could be possible over the next several nights.
