PUEBLO, Colo. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms could bring flash flooding to parts of central and southern Colorado through Saturday night, with the greatest risk in mountain areas already soaked by recent storms.
According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, scattered thunderstorms will develop this afternoon, producing gusty outflow winds up to 40 mph and small hail in stronger cells. Localized flash flooding is possible across the Sangre de Cristo, Sawatch, and San Juan Mountains, where repeated downpours have saturated the ground.
Drivers should watch for flooding on mountain passes and low-lying roads, particularly in Fremont, Chaffee, and Saguache counties. In Pueblo, storm chances diminish after sunset, giving way to mostly clear skies and lows near 55 degrees. Colorado Springs and the I-25 corridor may see isolated showers before conditions improve late tonight.
Sunday brings a break, with mostly sunny skies and highs in the low 80s across the Front Range. Drier air lingers into early next week, though isolated storms could redevelop by Wednesday as another cold front pushes through the state.
Residents are urged to avoid flooded roads and remain alert for additional weather advisories this weekend.
