Burlington, Vt. – A wet start to the day across Vermont is expected to ease later, but cooler-than-normal temperatures will keep conditions feeling more like fall. Morning rain will gradually break into scattered showers this afternoon before ending altogether by evening.
According to the National Weather Service in Burlington, highs will remain stuck in the 60s, several degrees below seasonal averages for late August. While no flooding concerns are anticipated, drivers should expect slick roads during the morning commute, especially along stretches of I-89 and U.S. Route 7.
The heaviest rainfall early this morning has been focused in northern Vermont and the Champlain Valley, with lighter showers pushing into central and southern counties through midday. Outdoor plans may be impacted until late afternoon, when drier conditions begin to move in.
Residents are advised to keep umbrellas handy through early evening and to be prepared for cooler-than-expected conditions if spending time outdoors. The region will begin to dry out overnight, setting the stage for a stretch of more seasonable weather heading into the weekend.
