Sioux Falls, S.D. – An unsettled weather pattern could disrupt holiday weekend plans across South Dakota as showers and thunderstorms move through the region, with locally heavy rainfall possible Saturday and Sunday. Temperatures will stay below seasonal averages into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Sioux Falls, Saturday will bring scattered showers and thunderstorms across much of the state, with highs holding in the mid-70s. While the risk of severe storms remains low, heavier downpours could create ponding on roads and slow travel, particularly west of the James River Valley.

Sunday looks similar, with widespread scattered storms and highs around 70 to 74 degrees. Forecasters caution that localized flooding cannot be ruled out if storms repeatedly track over the same areas. Drivers are urged to allow extra time on the roads and avoid low-lying areas that may flood quickly.

The wet pattern lingers into Monday with additional scattered showers before tapering off by Tuesday. Highs will remain cooler than average, ranging from the low 70s to mid-70s into midweek.

Rain chances will stay elevated through the weekend, and additional advisories may be issued if heavier storms develop.
