Bay St. Louis, Miss. – Heavy overnight rain has triggered a Flash Flood Warning for southeastern Hancock County, with dangerous conditions expected through at least 3:30 a.m. Friday. Drivers and residents in Bay St. Louis, Waveland and Shoreline Park are urged to use extreme caution as flooding rapidly develops.
According to the National Weather Service in New Orleans, radar detected storms producing between 3 and 5 inches of rain since midnight, with an additional 1 to 2 inches possible before the storms move out. Flooding is already impacting low-lying areas, creeks, and underpasses, with road closures likely through early morning.
Local officials are reminding drivers that most flood-related deaths occur in vehicles. Overnight travel is discouraged, particularly along U.S. 90, neighborhood streets in Waveland, and drainage-prone areas near Shoreline Park. Residents should avoid walking or driving through standing water and prepare for potential emergency alerts if conditions worsen.
The flash flood warning remains in effect until 3:30 a.m., but more advisories could be issued if heavy rain persists along the Mississippi Gulf Coast into the morning commute.
