Caribou, Maine – A soggy start to Labor Day weekend is unfolding across Maine as thunderstorms and steady rain move into the state Friday, especially impacting central and northern regions by midday.

According to the National Weather Service in Caribou, an upper-level low pressure system dropping south from Quebec is spreading showers and embedded thunderstorms across western and central Maine, with activity expected to shift eastward and taper off Friday night. Daytime highs Friday will reach the low 70s, with overnight lows dipping into the 50s.

Another wave of showers is expected to redevelop over eastern Maine late Friday night and persist into Saturday. Rainfall totals could reach three-quarters of an inch to an inch across central and northern zones, while Downeast areas may see up to half an inch. Cities like Presque Isle, Millinocket, and Bangor are likely to see the brunt of the rainfall, especially Saturday morning.

Highs on Saturday will range from the mid-60s in northern Maine to near 70°F closer to the coast. Conditions improve Sunday with sunshine and highs in the low to mid-70s, setting up a dry and warm pattern heading into Labor Day.

Showers should exit by Saturday night, but more updates may follow if frontal boundaries shift early next week.
