South Bend, IN – A 43-year-old man was arrested after allegedly threatening people with a knife at Howard Park earlier this week.

According to the South Bend Police Department, officers were called to the park Tuesday around 8:15 p.m. after reports of a man running around with a knife and making threats to stab people. When officers arrived, they located and detained Derrick V. Myers, who was allegedly carrying a steak knife.

Police said multiple witnesses reported that Myers allegedly followed park visitors and shouted threats including, “I’m gonna stab you, I’m gonna kill you.” Other witnesses told investigators he yelled at additional parkgoers, ordering them to run away.

Authorities confirmed Myers was arrested at the scene and transported to the St. Joseph County Jail. On Wednesday, the St. Joseph County Prosecutor’s Office charged him with intimidation.

The police department reminded the public that all individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

This arrest follows ongoing safety efforts in South Bend’s downtown parks, where police continue to encourage residents to report suspicious activity immediately.
