Dodge City, Kan. – Another round of heavy rain is expected to drench southwest and central Kansas tonight, with the highest flooding threat near and south of Interstate 70. Drivers could encounter water over roadways as storms roll in from Colorado this evening and last overnight.
According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, rain chances range from 70% to nearly 100% across much of the region. Areas including Garden City, Dodge City, and Great Bend face the strongest potential for excessive rainfall, with localized flooding possible in low-lying spots and along rural roads.
Storms are likely to be slow-moving, raising concerns for poor drainage flooding and swollen creeks. Emergency managers warn motorists not to drive across flooded roadways, especially after dark when water depth can be difficult to judge.
Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, clear storm drains if possible, and keep cell phones charged in case of power outages. Farmers and ranchers in central and western counties may also face delays in fieldwork and potential livestock stress due to soggy ground.
The heaviest rain is expected to taper off by early Wednesday, though additional showers remain possible midweek. More updates may be issued if rainfall intensifies overnight.
