Monee, IL — Two men were taken into custody this week in connection with a burglary at the Prairie View Rest Area in Monee, Illinois, which has been closed for construction.

According to Illinois State Police, the incident happened Sunday evening at the I-57 northbound rest area, where maintenance equipment was reportedly stolen. Investigators allege the suspects, identified as 41-year-old Flavio Retana of Burbank and 34-year-old Bernardo Hernandez-Molina of Melrose Park, were involved in the burglary.

Police said a vehicle tied to the incident was later located, leading to the arrests on Thursday. Retana and Hernandez-Molina face charges of burglary, a Class 2 felony; theft greater than $500, a Class 3 felony; and criminal trespass to state-supported land, a misdemeanor.

Both men are being held at the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Authorities emphasized the charges are not evidence of guilt and that both men are presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.

The burglary remains under investigation by ISP’s Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1, and no further details were immediately released.
