Minneapolis, Minn. – Southern Minnesota residents could see scattered showers and weak thunderstorms Wednesday, with the best chances arriving by afternoon and evening as the system shifts east into western Wisconsin. No severe weather is expected, but drivers along I-90 and east of I-35 may encounter brief downpours and slick roads.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, rain chances will remain highest over far southern Minnesota this morning before spreading into southeastern counties, then into western Wisconsin later in the day. Storms are not expected to produce damaging winds or hail, though localized ponding on roads is possible where heavier showers develop.
The Twin Cities metro area may see a few light showers, but drier conditions are expected to dominate north of I-94. By Thursday, skies turn mostly sunny with highs in the low to mid-70s, setting up a stretch of dry weather that will last through the Labor Day weekend.
Forecasters note temperatures will stay mild but below seasonal averages into early September, with precipitation chances returning next week.
