Shreveport drivers may face slick conditions Thursday evening as storms return to northwest Louisiana just before the busy Labor Day weekend. With dangerous heat expected during the day and thunderstorms likely at night, officials urge residents to plan ahead for disruptions.

According to the National Weather Service in Shreveport, Thursday will bring mostly sunny skies with a high near 96 degrees. Combined with humidity, the heat index could reach 104 before storms move in late afternoon and evening. A 70 percent chance of thunderstorms is expected Thursday night, with heavy rain and lightning possible across Caddo and Bossier parishes.

Travelers along Interstate 20 should prepare for sudden downpours that could reduce visibility and cause ponding on roads. Commuters are advised to avoid unnecessary trips after 6 p.m. when storms intensify. The Shreveport Fire Department also reminds residents to avoid using electronics during lightning and to secure outdoor items ahead of the storms.

Friday will stay unsettled with additional showers and storms, keeping highs near 84. The threat continues into Friday night with a 60 percent chance of thunderstorms before easing Saturday morning. Temperatures moderate into the mid-80s through the weekend, with Sunday and Labor Day looking clearer and drier for outdoor plans.

Storm chances could still return early next week, but for now Labor Day activities in Shreveport appear safe after Saturday’s passing showers. Weather officials stress that advisories may be updated if Thursday night storms intensify.
