Indianapolis, Ind. – Morning lows dipped into the upper 40s and low 50s across central Indiana Tuesday, marking the coldest stretch since late May. Some spots, including Zionsville at 44 degrees and New Palestine at 47 degrees, came close to record-setting chill.

According to the National Weather Service in Indianapolis, another night of unusually cool air is expected tonight with lows again dropping into the 40s for many cities. The stretch of cool nights is expected to continue until midweek before temperatures rebound.

The cool start did not prevent a warm-up this afternoon, with highs in the low 70s expected for Indianapolis, Bloomington, and Lafayette. Commuters heading out early should expect jackets or layers, especially in rural counties where temperatures remain cooler.

Farmers and gardeners may welcome the break from summer heat, but residents are urged to prepare for near-record lows again tonight. The NWS advises keeping windows closed if sensitive to the chill and to monitor local updates in case temperatures dip further.

Cooler-than-normal conditions will continue through Wednesday morning before warmer air begins moving back into the state by Thursday.
