Pueblo, Colo. – Heavy rainfall and the risk of flash flooding will remain a serious concern across Colorado through midweek as storms continue to track along and west of the I-25 corridor. The National Weather Service in Pueblo warns that monsoon moisture is keeping storm chances high, with the strongest activity expected this afternoon and evening.
According to the Weather Service, locally heavy rain could quickly overwhelm drainage systems and low-lying areas, especially where soils are already saturated from recent downpours. Counties from Pueblo to El Paso, Fremont, and Huerfano remain under elevated flood risk, with thunderstorms capable of producing dangerous runoff through Wednesday night.
Drivers are urged to avoid flood-prone roadways, particularly near creeks, washes, and underpasses. Officials stress that most flood fatalities occur in vehicles, and just a foot of water can sweep away a car. Residents are encouraged to monitor alerts, have multiple ways to receive warnings, and move to higher ground if flooding develops.
The flooding threat lingers through Thursday before storm chances gradually decrease by the weekend. Additional advisories may be issued if rainfall rates intensify.
