TAMPA, Fla. – Heavy showers and thunderstorms will soak Tampa Bay through Tuesday afternoon, raising concerns for wet commutes and localized ponding on roads. Temperatures will climb near 90 degrees, but the humidity will push heat index values as high as 98.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa, widespread showers are expected today, mainly in the morning and afternoon, before conditions begin to dry out by midweek. Winds will remain light, but shifting directions could enhance scattered storm development across Pinellas, Hillsborough, and Pasco counties.
Drivers should expect reduced visibility and slick conditions on major routes such as I-275, I-75, and the Howard Frankland Bridge during peak rain times. Beaches along Clearwater and St. Pete may also see brief lightning delays. Residents are urged to stay indoors during storms and avoid low-lying areas prone to street flooding.
By Wednesday and Thursday, Tampa Bay returns to more typical afternoon seabreeze showers with coverage dropping to around 30 to 50 percent. Sunshine will break through more often, with highs in the low 90s and muggy overnight lows in the mid-70s.
Storm chances increase again into the weekend, with higher rainfall expected Saturday and Sunday. Additional advisories may be issued later this week as conditions evolve.
