Weaverville, California – Scattered dry thunderstorms will spark over Trinity County’s higher terrain Monday, bringing dangerous lightning and gusty, erratic outflow winds that could top 40 mph. With critically dry fuels after recent heat, any new start may spread rapidly, especially near canyons and ridgetops late day into evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, a Red Flag Warning is in effect for fire weather zone 283 from 1 to 11 p.m. Monday, with storm coverage increasing through Tuesday and activity reaching as far south as northern Lake County. Storms are expected to be mostly dry, heightening ignition risk.

Fire weather concerns include sudden wind shifts, localized dust, and downed limbs along CA‑299 and CA‑3 near Weaverville, Junction City, and Trinity Center. Outdoor burning is not advised. Avoid mowing or grinding on cured grasses, secure trailer chains, and keep vehicles off dry vegetation. Campers should douse fires cold and be ready to evacuate if smoke or flames approach. Residents should charge phones, stage go-bags, and review routes in case of rapid changes.

The threat peaks Monday afternoon and evening and may linger with isolated storms again Tuesday. Additional advisories are possible if storm coverage expands.
