Baltimore, Md. – Thunderstorms and heavy showers are expected across Maryland and the D.C. region Sunday evening as a cold front pushes through, bringing a noticeable shift in weather by early Monday.

According to the National Weather Service Baltimore/Washington, storms will increase through the afternoon and evening before clearing overnight. Winds from the south at 5 to 10 mph will give way to drier conditions as high pressure builds in from the west.

Daytime highs on Sunday will reach the mid-80s across central Maryland, with evening storms likely to impact travel on I-95, Route 50, and Beltway corridors. By Monday, skies turn sunny with temperatures cooling into the upper 70s and overnight lows dipping into the 50s and 60s. Higher elevations, including western Maryland, could see nighttime temperatures fall into the 40s.

The drop in humidity paired with cooler nights will make for comfortable conditions into midweek, though residents should be cautious of wet roads Sunday night. Emergency managers recommend delaying non-essential travel until storms clear.

Calmer weather holds through Tuesday with highs in the 70s and lows in the 50s, extending the fall-like pattern into midweek.
