Marquette, Mich. – Rain showers and cloudy skies will keep much of Michigan’s Upper Peninsula cool through Sunday, but a stretch of drier, warmer weather is on the way. Afternoon highs will only reach the upper 50s to low 60s, with damp conditions lasting into the evening.

According to the National Weather Service in Marquette, widespread light showers are expected throughout Sunday, with temperatures dipping into the low to mid-40s overnight, coldest inland. The lakeshore will hold slightly warmer, though still chilly for late August.

By Monday, skies begin to clear with highs climbing into the low to upper 60s. Interior western counties could see temperatures fall into the mid-30s Monday night, while lakeside towns remain closer to the 50s. Sunshine and more seasonal warmth finally return Tuesday, when highs push near 70 across Marquette, Escanaba, and Houghton.

Drivers should be prepared for slick roads early Monday and bundle up for cooler mornings before conditions improve. Residents are encouraged to keep jackets handy until the midweek warm-up arrives.

Showers are expected to taper by late Monday, with no additional storm systems forecast through the middle of the week.
