Duluth, Minnesota – Northern Minnesota is starting the week on a chilly note as a Frost Advisory remains in effect tonight for inland areas away from Lake Superior, with overnight lows falling into the 30s. Residents are urged to cover sensitive plants, as frost will likely develop in low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the advisory includes communities from International Falls to Bigfork, Ely, Grand Rapids, and Virginia, where clear skies and calm winds will allow temperatures to drop quickly. Lows near Lake Superior will hold in the 40s thanks to the lake influence, but frost remains a threat farther inland through early Tuesday.
Drivers should be alert for patchy frost on rural highways and county roads during the early morning hours, particularly in Koochiching, Itasca, and northern St. Louis counties. Homeowners are advised to bring potted plants inside or cover gardens to avoid frost damage.
Conditions will stay cool into Tuesday morning before a warming trend begins midweek, with highs expected to rebound into the 70s by Wednesday. Additional advisories are not expected beyond Tuesday, but residents should remain prepared for chilly late August mornings.
