Charlotte, N.C. – A quiet Sunday evening could turn stormy for parts of Mecklenburg County as scattered thunderstorms threaten the Charlotte area tonight. Drivers along I-77 and I-85 should prepare for brief downpours and slick roads before conditions improve late.

According to the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, a 30% chance of storms continues until about 9 p.m. Sunday. Skies clear overnight, with lows near 67 degrees and calm winds providing relief after another warm August day.

Monday brings sunshine back to Charlotte, with highs near 84 and a light north breeze at 3 to 6 mph. Travelers heading into Uptown for the morning commute can expect dry conditions and good visibility. By Tuesday, clouds increase again, but rain chances remain low.

Wednesday marks the start of a cooler pattern, with highs holding in the upper 70s and overnight lows dipping into the upper 50s. These milder temperatures could bring some comfort after a run of humid August afternoons.

Residents should keep devices charged and avoid unnecessary travel if storms roll in early this evening. While severe weather isn’t expected, lightning and heavy bursts of rain could briefly cause problems on major highways.

The storm threat ends tonight, and no additional watches or warnings are in place for Charlotte. Conditions remain stable into late week, with more sunshine returning by Friday.

Five-Day Forecast for Charlotte, NC:

  • Monday: Sunny, high 84, low 63.

  • Wednesday: Sunny, high 79, low 58.
