Eureka, Calif. – Thick morning fog will continue to blanket the North Coast this weekend, making travel across Humboldt County slow and hazardous before midday. Visibility could fall below half a mile in spots, especially along U.S. Highway 101 near Arcata and Fortuna.
According to the National Weather Service in Eureka, patchy dense fog is expected overnight and into Saturday morning before conditions clear to partly sunny skies. By Sunday evening, a weak disturbance may bring light rain showers, with the best chance of measurable rainfall between 8 and 11 p.m.
Drivers along Highway 299 and coastal stretches near Eureka should expect slick pavement and low visibility during the morning commute. Light winds will shift through the weekend, remaining calm at night and picking up slightly from the northwest during the afternoons.
The damp start to the week could persist into early Monday with fog returning overnight, though drier skies are likely by Tuesday. Residents should allow extra travel time during morning hours and keep headlights on when driving in reduced visibility.
More fog and spotty rain chances may return midweek, with another round of partly sunny conditions by Thursday.
