OMAHA, Neb. – Thunderstorms are expected to develop across eastern Nebraska and western Iowa Friday evening, with some storms producing strong winds and heavy rain that could impact evening travel.
According to the National Weather Service in Omaha, showers and a few strong storms may continue into late tonight, especially across the Omaha metro, Council Bluffs, and surrounding counties. A 40 percent chance of storms remains in place, with the potential for brief downpours that could cause ponding on roads.
Saturday is expected to bring drier conditions with sunshine returning, though another round of scattered showers may develop early Sunday morning, particularly across southeast Nebraska. Winds will shift out of the north at 10 to 15 mph on Saturday before calming into the evening.
Drivers should be cautious on wet roads Friday night and allow extra travel time in storm-prone areas. Outdoor events and high school football games could see delays if storms persist past sunset.
The next best chance of rain arrives late Saturday night into Sunday, followed by a stretch of mostly sunny and mild conditions through midweek. Additional advisories could be issued if Sunday’s storms intensify.
