Golden, CO – A Colorado Parks and Wildlife ranger is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after authorities say his claim of being stabbed at Staunton State Park was fabricated.

According to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, 26-year-old Callum Heskett radioed for help around 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, reporting he had been attacked and stabbed by an unknown assailant. He allegedly provided a detailed suspect description, sparking an urgent law enforcement response.

Deputies, first responders, and specialized teams including JCSO SWAT, drone units, and Colorado State Patrol aviation crews were deployed to the area. Officials issued a Lookout Alert to 8,600 residents, while nearby schools and residents were asked to lock down for safety. Heskett was airlifted to a hospital while the search for the supposed suspect continued for several hours.

Authorities said inconsistencies in Heskett’s statements quickly surfaced, raising doubts about his report. After investigators interviewed him further, they determined the alleged attack had never occurred.

Heskett was arrested Thursday but remains hospitalized under a doctor’s care. He will be transferred to the Jefferson County Jail upon release. He faces charges including attempt to influence a public servant, tampering with evidence, false reporting, reckless endangerment, obstructing government operations, and second-degree official misconduct. His bond is set at $10,000.

The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office stated it remains committed to holding individuals accountable when false reports create unnecessary danger for the public and first responders.

Officials emphasized that Heskett is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
