Minneapolis, Minn. – A strong cold front sweeping across Minnesota late Thursday into Friday is expected to spark scattered thunderstorms, some of which could turn severe. Damaging winds and large hail remain the primary hazards as the storms track west to east overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, the first round of storms is expected to develop Thursday night in western Minnesota, with stronger cells possible near Fergus Falls and Alexandria. By early Friday morning, storms are likely to move into central and eastern Minnesota, including the Twin Cities metro, St. Cloud, and Rochester.

The main concern for Friday morning is the timing of storms with the early commute. Winds strong enough to down tree limbs and power lines may impact travel, while hail could damage vehicles and crops. Motorists are urged to allow extra time and check conditions before heading out.

Residents are advised to secure outdoor items, charge devices in case of power outages, and stay indoors during the strongest storms.

The severe threat should diminish by midday Friday as the cold front pushes east, but additional weather updates may be issued if conditions worsen overnight.
