Slatington, PA – Authorities are renewing efforts to solve the decades-old homicide of Richard Stewart Wimbish, a Philadelphia truck driver whose body was found in Trout Creek, Slatington Borough, on January 13, 1973.

According to the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop M, Criminal Investigation Assessment Unit, Wimbish, 49, had been shot to death and discovered by local youths wrapped in a sleeping bag along the creek in northern Lehigh County.

Investigators said Wimbish was last seen on December 29, 1972, leaving work at the Pennsylvania Trucking Company in Philadelphia. His normal delivery route included Scranton, Wilkes-Barre and Stroudsburg. He lived at Franklin Court Apartments in Philadelphia.

Authorities reported Wimbish never made it to a planned New Year’s Eve trip with a friend in Pleasantville, N.J. His 1967 green Cadillac was later found on January 23, 1973, just blocks from his Philadelphia residence.

The Pennsylvania State Police are offering a $5,000 reward for information leading to an arrest in the case. Tips can be reported by calling 1-800-472-8477 or submitting information online at p3tips.com.

Police encourage anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward, emphasizing that callers may remain anonymous and could be eligible for a cash reward.
