Cleveland, Ohio – Storms could drench Cleveland by mid-afternoon Saturday, bringing lightning, heavy downpours and dangerous swimming conditions along Lake Erie’s shoreline.

According to the National Weather Service in Cleveland, scattered thunderstorms are expected to develop after 3 p.m. Saturday, with rain chances peaking at 60% through the evening. Some storms may produce gusty winds and brief flooding in low-lying areas, especially in urban spots like downtown Cleveland and Lakewood. Rainfall totals are expected to remain under a tenth of an inch but could be higher in stronger cells.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Beach Hazards Statement for Lake Erie, in effect through 8 p.m. Saturday, warning of strong currents and waves near breakwalls and piers. Swimmers and boaters are urged to use extreme caution, especially at Edgewater Park and Mentor Headlands.

Sunday brings some relief with drier, sunnier skies and highs near 78°F. More unsettled weather returns Tuesday night into Wednesday, with another round of storms and possible lightning for northeast Ohio.
