DULUTH, Minn. – Strong storms are expected to linger through early Saturday afternoon across southern portions of the Northland, bringing heavy rainfall that may cause ponding on roads and low-lying areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, showers and thunderstorms will continue through midday Saturday before briefly tapering off in the evening. Winds could gust up to 25 mph, creating difficult travel conditions along major corridors including I-35 and U.S. Highway 53.
Another round of storms is likely to redevelop late Sunday into Monday morning, with the potential for heavy rainfall and localized flooding. Cities such as Cloquet, Proctor, and Superior, Wisconsin, may see impacts during the Monday morning commute if rain persists overnight.
Residents are advised to avoid driving through flooded roads and to prepare for rapidly changing conditions. The NWS encourages Skywarn spotters to report hail or rainfall totals to help track storm impacts.
Rain chances diminish by Tuesday with partly sunny skies returning, though additional showers remain possible by midweek. Weather officials caution that more advisories could be issued if rainfall totals increase Sunday into Monday.
