Paducah, Ky. – Dangerous heat will grip western Kentucky through early next week, with heat index values soaring to 105 degrees each afternoon from Saturday through Tuesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Paducah, high temperatures will range from 98 to 101 degrees, with heat index readings climbing above 105 at times. A heat advisory remains in effect, urging residents to limit outdoor activities, especially during peak afternoon hours.
The worst of the heat is expected Sunday through Tuesday, when Paducah, Mayfield, and Murray could see heat index values near 108. Emergency officials recommend staying hydrated, checking on elderly neighbors, and never leaving children or pets in vehicles. Cooling centers may open in McCracken and surrounding counties if demand increases.
Relief could arrive Tuesday night through Thursday, when thunderstorms are expected to move into western Kentucky. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, storms could briefly bring heavy rain and gusty winds, offering a temporary break from the oppressive heat.
Extreme heat remains the primary concern through Tuesday, with storm chances returning midweek.
