CLEVELAND, Ohio – After a bright and dry Saturday, thunderstorms are expected to return to northeast Ohio Sunday evening, creating travel disruptions and a risk of localized flooding through Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service, storms could develop late Sunday afternoon, with the strongest cells bringing heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds into the Cleveland metro area. Rainfall totals are expected to stay under a quarter inch, but higher amounts are possible in thunderstorms.

Sunday night storms may bring wet roads to I-90 and I-71, with reduced visibility for late-night drivers. The unsettled weather continues Monday evening into Tuesday, with storm chances climbing to 50% Tuesday afternoon. Communities along Lake Erie, including Euclid, Parma, and Lakewood, should prepare for brief but intense downpours.

Officials urge residents to monitor changing conditions, avoid flooded intersections, and secure outdoor items that could be blown around in gusty winds. Most of Monday looks dry, but the next organized round of showers is expected by Tuesday morning.

Storm chances diminish by midweek, with drier air and highs in the upper 70s expected by Thursday. More updates are possible if stronger storm systems track across the region.
