Nashville, Tenn. – Dangerous heat will grip Middle Tennessee through the weekend as triple-digit highs combine with oppressive humidity, pushing heat index values above 105 degrees in Nashville and surrounding counties.
According to the National Weather Service, Saturday’s high will climb near 98 degrees, with “feels like” temperatures up to 105 by late afternoon. The heat intensifies Sunday, with a forecast high near 99 degrees but heat index values topping out near 107. Monday and Tuesday are expected to bring the worst of the stretch, with highs of 99 and 101 degrees.
Davidson, Rutherford, and Williamson counties will see prolonged stretches of hot afternoons followed by warm overnight lows in the mid-70s, offering little relief. With calm winds and mostly clear skies, cooling will be limited. Emergency managers urge residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and check on vulnerable neighbors, especially the elderly and young children.
Travelers on Interstates 40 and 65 should be prepared for vehicle overheating and delays in the afternoon peak. Cooling shelters in Davidson County are expected to remain open through Tuesday night.
The extended heat wave is expected to break by midweek, when scattered storms and highs in the mid-90s move into the region Wednesday afternoon.
