Oklahoma City, Okla. – A dangerous stretch of heat is gripping central Oklahoma this weekend, with temperatures climbing into the upper 90s and heat index values topping 102 to 103 degrees. A heat advisory remains in effect as the city endures one of the hottest stretches of the summer.

According to the National Weather Service in Norman, Saturday will reach 96 degrees under full sun, followed by 97 degrees Monday. Southerly winds near 10 mph will provide little relief. The combination of high humidity and air temperatures near triple digits will push heat index readings into the low 100s through at least Sunday evening.

Residents across Oklahoma County, including Oklahoma City, Edmond and Moore, are urged to limit outdoor activity during the afternoon hours. Heat-related illnesses become more likely in prolonged exposure, and cooling centers remain open across the metro. Drivers are also advised not to leave pets or children inside vehicles, even briefly.

A slight break comes Tuesday when scattered thunderstorms may develop in the afternoon, bringing cooler air but also the chance of gusty winds and lightning. Until then, the heat remains the primary hazard across central and western Oklahoma.

Warnings remain in effect through Monday, and forecasters note additional advisories could be issued if heat persists into midweek.
