Tampa, Fla. – Dangerous heat is gripping West Central Florida this Sunday, with a heat advisory in effect for the Nature Coast through 7 p.m. Feels-like temperatures could climb to 110° as humidity and above-average temperatures combine to create hazardous outdoor conditions.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, high temperatures will reach the mid to upper 90s this afternoon. The advisory covers cities including Tampa, Lakeland, Brooksville, Crystal River, and Sarasota. Officials urge residents to limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heating hours and to drink plenty of water.
Heat risks are especially high for the elderly, children, and those without air conditioning. Outdoor workers are encouraged to take frequent breaks in shaded or air-conditioned spaces. Pets should also be kept cool and never left in vehicles.
The heat threat will ease slightly after sunset, but above-average temperatures will continue into the early part of the week. Additional advisories may be issued if humidity levels remain elevated.
