Dodge City, Kan. – Central and south central Kansas will face extreme heat this afternoon, with heat index values climbing to between 104 and 107 degrees in several communities. The most dangerous conditions are expected between 2 p.m. and 6 p.m., particularly in cities such as Larned, Pratt, and Coldwater.

According to the National Weather Service in Dodge City, a heat advisory remains in effect for much of the region, urging residents to take precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses. Areas west, including Syracuse and Dighton, will still see oppressive heat with index values near 99 to 104 degrees.

Officials recommend limiting outdoor activity during peak heating hours, drinking plenty of water, and avoiding alcohol. Those who must work outside should schedule tasks early in the morning or late in the evening. Light-colored clothing and sunscreen are also essential for protection.

The advisory comes as central Kansas braces for a stretch of summer weather that could strain outdoor workers, livestock, and anyone without adequate cooling. Residents should monitor updates as more advisories may be issued if heat persists into the weekend.
