Denver, Colo. – Wildfire risk is climbing fast across Colorado as gusty winds, single-digit humidity, and near triple-digit heat grip the region Saturday. Officials warn that even a small spark could spread quickly, especially along the I-25 Corridor and eastern plains.
According to the National Weather Service in Boulder, a Red Flag Warning remains in effect for much of the mountains, foothills, and high valleys through Saturday evening. Winds could gust 40–50 mph in exposed areas, and temperatures may reach 100°F in some lower elevations. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents should secure loose items and avoid activities that generate sparks.
Hot, dry conditions will persist Sunday, with only isolated afternoon thunderstorms possible. Any storms could bring lightning without significant rainfall, creating additional fire starts. Cooler overnight temperatures in the 60s will offer limited relief.
Travelers should be prepared for reduced visibility from blowing dust in open areas and remain aware of changing conditions, especially along stretches of I-25, U.S. 36, and U.S. 285. Farmers, ranchers, and outdoor workers are urged to stay hydrated and schedule breaks during peak heat hours.
While the fire danger will ease slightly by early next week, the National Weather Service warns of a continued risk of afternoon storms and gusty outflows through midweek.
