TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Dangerous heat will grip the Florida Panhandle through Saturday, with heat index values climbing above 105° and some spots potentially reaching 110°. Afternoon highs are expected to peak Friday and Saturday, combining with dewpoints in the upper 70s to create oppressive, sauna-like conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Heat Advisory may be issued for both days if the index meets or exceeds the 108° threshold. Albany, Bainbridge, Perry, and Valdosta are among the communities forecast to see the most extreme readings. Officials warn that prolonged exposure without cooling could lead to heat-related illnesses. Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

While Tropical Storm Erin is forecast to strengthen into a hurricane by Friday, the system poses no threat to the Northeast Gulf Coast. Erin’s track will shift west-northwest over the weekend, remaining well east of Florida. Meteorologists emphasize this as a reminder to review hurricane plans as the peak of the season approaches.

Temperatures will ease slightly Sunday and Monday with increased storm coverage. Heat is expected to return by midweek.
