Charleston, S.C. – Dangerous heat will grip the South Carolina Lowcountry and parts of southeast Georgia through this evening, with heat index values soaring between 106 and 112 degrees. The National Weather Service says the most oppressive conditions will be along the coast, with inland areas still facing heat indices from 98 to 106 degrees.

According to the NWS Charleston office, the heat advisory covers Charleston, Beaufort, Jasper, and Colleton counties in South Carolina, along with Chatham, Bryan, and Liberty counties in Georgia. Isolated to scattered thunderstorms could bring some temporary relief but will also add to the humidity.

Officials urge residents to stay hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours, and wear light, breathable clothing. Those without adequate cooling should seek out air-conditioned spaces, as heat-related illnesses can develop quickly in these conditions.

The advisory remains in effect through tonight, and more alerts are possible if high heat continues into the weekend.
