Cheyenne, Wyo. – Scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across Wyoming Thursday afternoon, with the strongest storms most likely between 2 p.m. and 10 p.m. While severe weather is not anticipated, forecasters warn that a few isolated storms could bring hail, strong wind gusts, and frequent lightning.
According to the National Weather Service in Cheyenne, storms will form over the higher terrain in the afternoon before moving east into the plains. Residents in Cheyenne, Laramie, Torrington, and surrounding areas could see bursts of moderate rain, winds up to 40 mph, and pea-sized hail in stronger cells.
Drivers should be prepared for sudden downpours and reduced visibility, especially on I-80 and I-25 during the evening commute. Outdoor plans should include shelter options in case lightning approaches. Those working outside are urged to seek cover at the first sign of thunder.
