State College, PA – Thunderstorms packing heavy rain are expected to sweep through central Pennsylvania on Thursday, bringing the possibility of isolated flooding in low-lying areas and poor drainage spots. Outdoor events and afternoon travel could face interruptions as the storms peak after midday.

According to the National Weather Service in State College, showers and thunderstorms are possible after 11 a.m., with the heaviest downpours capable of dropping between a quarter and half an inch of rain in a short period. Winds will remain light, but reduced visibility and water-covered roads may slow traffic on routes including I-99, Route 322, and local secondary roads.

While Thursday poses the week’s highest storm risk, calmer and sunnier weather will take over from Thursday night through the weekend. Friday and Saturday are both expected to be mostly sunny and seasonably warm, making for good opportunities to catch up on outdoor plans before another storm chance returns Sunday.

Storms on Thursday are expected to be hit-or-miss but could quickly intensify. Residents are advised to keep devices charged, secure outdoor items, and monitor alerts in case of flooding advisories.
