Pendleton, OR – Triple-digit temperatures will grip much of Eastern Oregon through Tuesday evening, with dangerous heat prompting an Extreme Heat Warning for Pendleton and surrounding areas. Highs near 101°F Tuesday will keep the risk for heat-related illness elevated, especially for those without air conditioning or adequate hydration.
According to the National Weather Service in Pendleton, the warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. Tuesday for the Eastern Columbia River Gorge, Lower Columbia Basin, Yakima Valley, and foothills of the Blue Mountains. The heat will begin to ease Wednesday as breezy southwest winds bring drier, slightly cooler air, dropping highs to the mid-90s.
Residents are urged to limit outdoor activities during the peak heat hours, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Outdoor workers should take frequent shaded breaks and wear light, loose-fitting clothing. Never leave children or pets unattended in vehicles, even for a short time.
Conditions turn sunnier and milder Thursday and Friday, with highs in the low-to-mid 80s offering a more comfortable stretch to close the week.
