Amarillo, Texas – Residents across the Texas Panhandle are enjoying one final day of mild summer air before a midweek heat surge sends highs back into the 90s. A mix of sun and clouds will dominate Tuesday, with a slight chance for isolated rain showers or thunderstorms during the afternoon. Most towns will hold in the low to mid-80s, offering a brief break from the August heat.
According to the National Weather Service in Amarillo, temperatures will climb sharply starting Wednesday, with highs reaching the low to mid-90s across much of the region. Locations including Borger, Dalhart, and Pampa can expect to feel the hotter air settle in by midday, with minimal overnight relief as lows hover in the upper 60s to low 70s.
The warm-up is expected to persist through the weekend, raising heat safety concerns for outdoor workers, livestock, and vulnerable populations. Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous activity during peak heat, and check on neighbors without reliable cooling.
The heat dome’s influence will likely keep rain chances low into early next week, meaning the region’s dry conditions could intensify.
