St. Louis, Mo. – Residents in southern Knox and northwestern Shelby counties are under a tornado warning until 6:45 p.m. Saturday after radar detected strong rotation in a storm moving east at 35 mph. The National Weather Service said the cell was located 7 miles northwest of Plevna, roughly 10 miles south of Edina, at 6:07 p.m.

According to the National Weather Service in St. Louis, the storm is capable of producing a tornado with dangerous winds and flying debris. Mobile homes, vehicles, and poorly constructed buildings could sustain significant damage. Tree damage is also likely.

Communities including Plevna, Novelty, Newark, and Leonard are in the direct path of the storm. Residents are urged to move immediately to an interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building, away from windows. Those outdoors or in vehicles should seek the nearest substantial shelter.

Heavy rain is also accompanying the system, raising the risk of flash flooding. Officials warn drivers never to attempt crossing flooded roadways.

This warning remains in effect until 6:45 p.m., and additional advisories could be issued if the storm maintains its intensity or spawns more rotation.
