Eugene, OR – Residents are facing a dangerous heat stretch beginning Sunday, with highs nearing 99°F and climbing to 102°F by Monday under an Extreme Heat Warning. The National Weather Service warns that prolonged exposure could lead to heat-related illnesses, urging people to limit outdoor activity and drink plenty of water.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, Sunday will bring light winds from the north at 5 to 9 mph, offering little relief from the intense heat. Monday’s heat will be compounded by minimal overnight cooling, with lows only dipping to the mid-60s. Vulnerable groups, including the elderly and outdoor workers, are urged to take precautions.

City cooling centers are expected to open Sunday morning, with Lane County advising residents to check in on neighbors without air conditioning. Outdoor plans should be rescheduled to early morning or evening hours, and pets should be kept indoors.

Temperatures are expected to remain in the mid-90s on Tuesday before dropping back into the 80s by Wednesday. The heat risk will ease midweek, but residents should stay alert for additional advisories if temperatures rise again.
