Medford, OR – Dangerous fire weather and extreme heat are converging over southern Oregon this weekend, with the National Weather Service warning of gusty winds, low humidity, and temperatures soaring into the triple digits. Red Flag Warnings remain in place through 8 p.m. Saturday, followed by an Extreme Heat Watch beginning Sunday morning and lasting through early Tuesday.

According to the National Weather Service in Medford, sustained north winds of 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph will combine with humidity levels near 12% in the Rogue Valley, increasing the risk of rapid fire spread. Outdoor burning is banned, and residents are urged to avoid any activity that could spark a blaze.

The heat will intensify Sunday, with highs reaching 106°F in Medford and peaking at 107°F Monday. Overnight lows will offer little relief, staying in the upper 60s to low 70s. This prolonged heat can increase the risk of heat-related illness, especially for those without access to cooling. Stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity in the afternoon, and check on vulnerable neighbors.

Fire and heat alerts could be extended if hot, dry conditions persist into midweek.
