Portland, Ore. – Dangerously hot weather is expected to grip northwest Oregon and southwest Washington starting Sunday afternoon, with the National Weather Service warning of highs between 95 and 105 degrees and mild overnight lows in the upper 60s. The Extreme Heat Watch will remain in place until Monday evening, affecting the greater Portland-Vancouver metro, the Willamette Valley, and the Columbia River Gorge.

According to the National Weather Service in Portland, the heat will be most intense Sunday and Monday afternoons, with overnight warmth offering little relief. Officials caution that prolonged exposure to these conditions can cause heat-related illnesses, especially for those without access to cooling or shade.

Communities from Salem and Eugene north through Vancouver, Wash., and east to Hood River and the Gorge should prepare for dangerous heat indexes. Residents are urged to limit strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors and pets.

Transportation departments and emergency services warn that heat can also affect road conditions, power demand, and public transit schedules. Cooling centers are expected to open in multiple cities.

The extreme heat is forecast to ease late Monday night, but additional advisories are possible if warm conditions linger into midweek.
