PUEBLO, Colo. – Residents across south-central Colorado face a volatile mix of weather Saturday, with dangerous fire conditions in the mountains and the potential for severe storms farther east. A Red Flag Warning is in effect from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. for the central mountains into the San Luis Valley, where warm, dry, and gusty winds could quickly spread any new fires.

According to the National Weather Service in Pueblo, wind gusts of 25 to 35 mph combined with low humidity will create critical fire danger from Salida to Alamosa and into the San Luis Valley. Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged, and residents should secure anything that could spark or blow away.

Farther east, including Pueblo, Colorado Springs, and La Junta, cooler and wetter air is expected to move in Saturday afternoon. Storms could become severe by late day, producing heavy rain, hail, and strong winds. Motorists should watch for rapidly changing conditions, especially along I-25 and Highway 50.

High fire danger will end Saturday night, but forecasters warn more storm activity is possible early next week.
