Duluth, Minnesota – Thick fog blanketing roads across north-central Minnesota is making for a dangerous morning commute, with visibility dropping below a quarter-mile in some spots. A Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 8 a.m. Wednesday, especially impacting areas around Duluth, Cloquet, Hibbing, and the Iron Range.

According to the National Weather Service in Duluth, the advisory covers portions of St. Louis, Carlton, and Aitkin counties, where early 4 a.m. reports showed visibility as low as 0.25 miles. The fog developed overnight under calm winds and clear skies, trapping moisture near the surface.

Drivers on Highways 53, 2, and 169 are urged to slow down, use low-beam headlights, and allow for extra braking distance. Patchy fog may linger past the advisory in some low-lying areas.

While no major accidents have been reported as of early morning, authorities emphasize the risk of sudden visibility drops. The Minnesota State Patrol recommends delaying travel where possible until conditions improve.

Visibility should improve mid-morning as sunlight breaks through. However, another round of patchy fog could return late tonight under similar conditions.
