Atlanta, Georgia – Heavy rain continues to soak much of central and northeast Georgia, with a Flood Watch now extended until 8 p.m. Wednesday, putting residents and drivers on high alert for flash flooding. According to the National Weather Service, 1 to 2.5 inches of rainfall are expected this evening, with some isolated spots possibly seeing totals near 5 inches—enough to overwhelm low-lying roads, creeks, and neighborhoods.

Portions of far northwest Georgia, including areas near Dalton and Rome, have been dropped from the watch as the threat for flash flooding has eased. However, the risk remains high across Atlanta, Athens, Macon, and surrounding communities, especially where storms persist or repeat over the same locations. Officials urge drivers to avoid water-covered roads and to stay alert for rapidly changing conditions, as even a few inches of fast-moving water can sweep vehicles away.

Utility crews are on standby for possible power outages, while emergency management is warning residents to charge phones and check local alerts. Anyone living near creeks or flood-prone streets should be ready to move to higher ground if needed.

The flood threat will persist through Wednesday evening, with additional advisories possible if rain totals climb further.
