Minneapolis, Minnesota – Rounds of showers and isolated severe thunderstorms will move across Minnesota tonight and again through Wednesday, bringing a risk for damaging winds and hail, especially west of the Twin Cities. According to the National Weather Service in the Twin Cities, two waves of storms are expected to sweep across the region through Wednesday, with the greatest potential for severe weather in western and central Minnesota. While the threat remains low overall, residents from Willmar and Alexandria to St. Cloud should watch for quick bursts of strong wind or large hail, especially overnight into early Wednesday morning.

Travelers on I-94, Highway 12, and other west-to-east routes may encounter slick roads or sudden gusts. Local emergency officials advise having multiple ways to receive weather alerts both at home and while traveling, as storms may develop quickly. With another round possible by Wednesday afternoon, outdoor plans across the metro and outlying communities could be disrupted. If thunder roars, move indoors and avoid flooded or debris-covered roads. Power outages or minor tree damage may occur in areas hit by stronger cells.

Storm chances gradually diminish by late Wednesday, but alerts could be extended if new rounds develop. Stay tuned for additional warnings and updates as the week continues.
