Tucson, Arizona – Southern Arizona is baking under a prolonged stretch of dangerous heat, with an Extreme Heat Warning in place until 8 p.m. Tuesday and a broader Heat Watch lasting through Friday evening. Temperatures could reach 110°F, pushing the limits of outdoor safety across Pima, Pinal, and Santa Cruz counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Tucson, the most intense conditions are expected in the Tucson Metro Area, Western Pima County, and the Tohono O’odham Nation. The extended watch means extreme heat could return midweek, with highs up to 115°F possible.

The combination of scorching daytime temperatures and limited overnight cooling increases the risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke, especially for outdoor workers, children, and seniors. Health officials urge residents to limit outdoor activity, drink water frequently, and never leave pets or kids inside vehicles.

Workplace safety agencies recommend scheduling outdoor labor for early mornings or evenings, and taking frequent shaded breaks. Emergency officials warn that heat stroke is life-threatening — call 911 if symptoms arise.

Heat alerts may be extended or upgraded as temperatures climb later in the week.
