Columbus, Ohio – Rivers across Ohio and the Ohio Valley are receding today after heavy rainfall left parts of the region with over two inches of rain and pushed some waterways above action level, but cooler, drier air is settling in for the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service Ohio River Forecast Center, a cold front brought widespread rain over the past 48 hours, leading to minor river rises and scattered localized flooding, especially near the Scioto, Muskingum, and Miami river basins. Most rivers that exceeded action stage are now steadily falling.

Residents in Columbus, Cincinnati, Dayton, and along I-70 can expect mainly dry conditions through Saturday evening, providing a critical window for rivers and streams to recede further. Emergency managers say no new flooding is forecast through Sunday morning, though they urge continued caution near swollen waterways and low-lying roads previously impacted by high water.

Travelers should avoid driving through water-covered roads, and those living near smaller creeks should stay alert until river levels return to normal. With moisture forecast to return by late Sunday, a brief window of calm is expected before renewed showers may develop early next week.

Flood advisories are not anticipated through the weekend, but residents should check for new updates as rain returns late Sunday. More alerts may be issued if water levels rise again.
